Next steps

An Outline Business Case will be developed for the scheme.

As part of this next stage of scheme development, potential route options will be considered, environmental assessments, public consultation on route options, identification of a preferred route, and preparation of a scheme design will be undertaken. This will inform the preparation of an Outline Business Case that will be submitted to the Department for Transport for consideration for funding to deliver the KNAR.

The Government have announced that this section of the A595 will be one of the first five 'Major Road Network' schemes to start development.  Work is underway to look at transport scheme options.

Cumbria County Council is undertaking a study to look at improvements which are needed on the A595 to make it a more reliable road with improved journey times.  The study is looking at the existing issues within the vicinity of Bothel and has developed a plan for potential improvements.
