The Gables is a modern 60 bedded residential home for older adults living with dementia, physical impairment, and sensory loss. We are situated in Hensingham, close to Whitehaven, and Cleator Moor.
The home is divided into five separate areas, each having 12 bedrooms, a dining area, and two separate communal lounges.
The home also has a spacious central hub, with café area, hairdressing salon, and on site shop. All bedrooms are en-suite and the ground floor bedrooms and lounges all have their own access to our secure garden and patio areas.
The first floor lounges all have access to balconies.
The Gables offers a variety of traditional activities such as Arm chair aerobics, arts and craft making, cinema nights, sing a longs, game playing including bingo, dominoes, draughts, chess, etc. We engage with the local community, holding coffee mornings every six weeks, and have links with local schools and churches. There are landscaped accessible gardens which people are welcome to use and adapt as they wish. We have a team of lead support workers, who endeavour to offer person centred activities based on individual preference, including trips out in to the local area.
All our friendly and professional staff are fully trained to deliver excellent, person centred care. We understand the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect. The home has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with a mix of experienced longstanding staff and new recruits.
We offer homemade nutritionally balanced meals, and have a choice of options available every day. We cater for all dietary and nutritional needs, with a well trained and experienced team of cooks. The well-equipped, modern kitchen is situated just off the central hub, and service users and families are welcome to watch the cooks and kitchen staff as they work, whilst enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and a homemade biscuit.
