Housing Benefit or the Housing Cost element of Universal Credit are welfare benefits for people on a low income to help them pay their rent.  Not every young person is entitled to Housing Costs.

If you are a care experienced please contact your local Children's Services office to find out more about what help and support you might be entitled to. Details can be found on the Who to Contact page.

You may be eligible for help from Children's Services if you are care experienced and spent a total of at least 13 weeks in care since the age of 14 and were still looked after ( in care) on or after your 16th birthday . The 13 weeks doesn't have to be all in one go.  You will probably have different leaving care rights if you have spent less than a total of 13 weeks in care.

If you are in one of these situations, you could be eligible for help from Children's Services and/or the housing team.
