As part of the review of schools throughout Cumbria, the council was seeking to establish strategically resourced provision for pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder within the county's mainstream schools. A strategically resourced school is a mainstream school where pupils with specific types of special educational needs are taught alongside their peers with additional specialist facilities and staffing. Caldew School indicated some time ago that they would like to host strategically resourced provision and a consultation took place on the possibility of establishing such a resource at the school. The consultation ended on 22 June 2007 and the consultation document, or any of the background information used to prepare it, can be downloaded by following the links below.

The consultation was concerned with the arrangements for primary education for the villages of Culgaith and Langwathby. The suggested change was that Culgaith School became an all-through primary school catering for children aged 3 to 11 and with no transfer at the end of Year 3 to Langwathby School. Cumbria County Council carried out the consultation on behalf of the Culgaith governors. The governors and the county council wanted to hear views on the possibility of change.
