School Organisation - Former proposals C-J

As part of the review of schools throughout Cumbria, the council was seeking to establish strategically resourced provision for pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder within the county's mainstream schools. A strategically resourced school is a mainstream school where pupils with specific types of special educational needs are taught alongside their peers with additional specialist facilities and staffing.   Caldew School indicated some time ago that they would like to host strategically resourced provision and a consultation took place on the possibility of establishing such a resource at the school.   The consultation ended on 22 June 2007 and the consultation document, or any of the background information used to prepare it, can be downloaded by following the links below.

This consultation was about primary education in the Captain Shaw's / Waberthwaite Schools' catchment areas. The council proposed that Captain Shaw's School closed and the catchment boundaries for each school were combined. Pupils at Captain Shaw's were to be transferred to Waberthwaite School. The county council wanted to hear views on this proposal before deciding whether to make a change.

For a little while now, primary education in the Carlisle area has been under the spotlight.  Examining primary school provision in the area of the city north of the River Eden is seen as a priority. This consultation document considers the possible reorganisation of primary education in the North Carlisle area . The public consultation on 11-19 education in North Copeland ended on 3 November, although you can still download the consultation document for information by following the link below.  The responses received were analysed and presented to the County Council's Cabinet on 28 November 2006.  The papers and minutes for this meeting as well as a summary of the recommendations that Cabinet approved, can be reached by following the link below. A final decision to close Ehenside school, Cleator Moor and Wyndham school Egremont and to support the creation of the North lakes Academy was taken on the 11 December 2007.

The consultation was concerned with the arrangements for primary education for the villages of Culgaith and Langwathby. The suggested change was that Culgaith School became an all-through primary school catering for children aged 3 to 11 and with no transfer at the end of Year 3 to Langwathby School. Cumbria County Council carried out the consultation on behalf of the Culgaith governors. The governors and the county council wanted to hear views on the possibility of change.

The County Council's Cabinet agreed on Monday 1st September 2008 that there should be a further consultation in Barrow on the proposed Academy. The consultation will be limited to whether the new school should be located permanently on just the Parkview site or both the Parkview and Thorncliffe sites.
