Work experience is a great way for you to get real workplace experience and employment skills to help inform your career choices. It provides you with the opportunity to:
- Learn and develop new skills
- Gain work related experience
- Meet experienced professionals
- Learn the behaviours that employers are looking for
- Build confidence and self-esteem
- Think about possible career choices
- Help you with your plans for your future career
If you live within Cumbria, are over 16 years old, and would like to develop your skills in a workplace environment, Cumbria County Council could offer you work experience in a range of ways.
Work-based tours' - The opportunity to visit a Council office and to find out what we do
'Meet the team' - The opportunity to meet with a particular team within the Council
'Taster days in the workplace' - The opportunity to gain work experience in a particular area of the Council.
Note: Please be aware that we may not be able to accommodate all requests for work experience due to high volume, safeguarding, confidentiality or Health and Safety reasons. Should this occur, we will provide you with an alternative work experience offer e.g. a work-based chat.
'Meet the Employer' - Visits to schools/colleges advising on apprenticeship/employment opportunities within the Council
'Professional/Expert Talks' - Visits to schools/colleges talking about specific areas of work within the Council i.e. Highways or Care
'Drop-in sessions' - Held across the county where you are able to find out more about apprentice opportunities within the Council
'Mini work-related projects' - Held in school/college (e.g. half-day)
'Confidential work-based chats' - To give you information about a particular job or career in the Council
