Children of all ages (0 to 18 years of age) and from various cultural and social backgrounds are placed in foster care for many different reasons.

At the moment there is a specific need for carers for sibling groups, for permanent carers and also for older children and teenagers.

Some have suffered abuse and neglect. Some have brothers and sisters. Others have committed criminal offences. Neglect is the most common reason for children coming into care in Cumbria.

Some children will have experienced upset and trauma as a result of their circumstances and this may be displayed in difficult behaviour. For some, the separation from their birth family will cause them distress whatever their experience in the family.

They will each have a variety of unique needs and as a carer, you will be required to provide a safe, healthy and nurturing environment in order to meet these needs and give these children the opportunity to live their life to the full.

Without more foster families coming forward some children may find themselves living a long way from family, school and friends or being split up from brothers and sisters. To find out more about the children, young people and sibling groups who need fostering please contact us.
