Make some simple soft-backed books using different bookbinding techniques as well as a hard-backed book to take home for yourself or for a handmade gift just in time for Christmas.
What will the workshop cover and how will it be taught?
You will be shown how to make a soft-backed book using simple pamphlet stitch and Japanese stab binding and have the time to experiment individually with making some different versions for yourself with tutor guidance when needed. We will also make a hard-backed book with multiple signatures.
By the end of the workshop you will:
Create soft-backed books using pamphlet stitch and Japanese stab binding
Create a hard-backed book with multiple signatures
Understand the use of various specific bookbinding terms such as perfect bound, signature, pamphlet stitch and bone folder
