Event: Gardens, Mosses and Manuscripts: All-Day Writing Workshop

< Return to calendar
Description
Karen Lloyd (writer in residence with Lancaster University's Future Places Centre) will lead this early summer creative writing workshop, taking initial inspiration from leading women writers on the natural world, including Dorothy Wordsworth, Karen McCarthy Woolf, Robin Wall Kimmerer and Kathleen Jamie.

As our lives become increasingly urbanised, many of us have lost knowledge of the wildflowers that play key roles in our ecosystems, a phenomenon which has been called plant blindness. Part of this inspiring day will therefore provide an opportunity to look closely at plants, pollinators, lichens, mosses and related manuscripts in the Wordsworth Trust's collection. A member of the garden team will meet participants to explore the role of plants in Dove Cottage Garden-Orchard, and there will be time for quiet writing in both gardens and woodlands. The group will also have the opportunity to examine Sarah Hutchinson and Emmeline Fisher's moss book, dating from 1841.
