  • The Doko Challenge North
    This unique event sees participants running in the footsteps of the Bravest of the Brave. Based on a pivotal part of the Gurkha selection process, we challenge you to take on an undulating 5km cross-country course through the grounds of Greystoke Castle with a weighted Nepali Doko basket strapped to your back. Choose to carry 5kg, 10kg or 15kg in your Doko, and run, jog, or walk the route. Those looking to push themselves can aim to beat the Gurkha recruitment time of 46 minutes! Included in your registration: Doko basket for the race, with chosen weight Chip timers & online results A signposted, 5km cross-country course, with volunteers marshalling Goodie bag, complete with finishers medal and T-shirt Finish line photos We suggest participants set a fundraising target of £150. Alongside challenging yourself, you can take great pride in raising money to support our team in Nepal, keeping our Gurkha veterans and widows safe.

In this document of their first ever performances of these albums, filmed in spring 2021 ahead of their UK tour, we see the two, accompanied by singers and string quartet, as they nurture each song into existence. The film features a special appearance by close friend and long-term collaborator, Marianne Faithfull.

    Alexander (Ilja Monti), a serious teenager, takes to the stage to begin his violin audition before a room of jurors at a prestigious Berlin music school. The vote is split, and he is criticised for lacking technique. His soon-to-be violin teacher, Anna Bronsky (Nina Hoss), stands up for him in a seemingly benevolent manner, insisting that she can train him. And so begins her obsessive quest to make the boy's vocation distinct and draw out of him the unique sound she believes he possessed in his audition.

    Young Finnish archaeology student Laura (Seidi Haarla) is convinced by her lecturer and lover to take a trip to an ancient site of petroglyphs near the Arctic Circle. However, when she boards the long-distance train to take her there, she finds that she has to share her carriage with the boorish and belligerent Ljoha (Yuriy Borisov), a foul-mouthed, misogynistic drunk travelling to his new job as a miner. Initially, they seem to have nothing in common, but, like the landscape, they're travelling through, the more time Laura spends with Ljoha the more he thaws, revealing an unforeseen kindness beneath the macho facade. This chance meeting between the two occupants of compartment no. 6 brings about an awakening within them, forming a bond they will never forget.
