  • The Spirit and Sound of Steely Dan - Nearly Dan in Concert
    Less tribute and more homage, Nearly Dan is a saviour to the growing legions of Dan fans, desperate to hear the meticulously crafted grooves and allusive lyrical style of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. Nearly Dan's approach is faithful, though not reverential, and relaxed but as tight as their namesakes. They bring their own unique spirit and spontaneous humour to every concert.

    Kaleidoscope - a new exhibition from Green Door artists celebrating their diversity and originality in the prestigious and attractive Upfront gallery. The title Kaleidoscope offers artists the freedom to approach their subjects using a wide variety of media and styles. It is intended as an invitation to find inspiration by exploring new ways of thinking. Cumbria Ceramics will share the same exhibition time, and will bring an extra three dimensional element to the UpFront experience. The spacious gallery offers an opportunity to display larger pieces and more significant work in this well-lit and sympathetic space, always sensitively presented and curated by the owner, John Parkinson.     Walking is a great way to get fit, explore what's on your doorstep and make new friends. Join us for a short relaxed stroll around Vulcan Park, Workington. We'll meet at 11am in the foyer of Workington Library every Tuesday. The walk will be at a relaxed pace and take between 20 - 30 minutes. The route is flat, with places to sit and rest if required, so the walk is suitable for all ages and abilities.   • Northern Soul - Ian Scott Massie
    An exhibition of watercolour paintings and screen prints exploring the character of the North of England through the personality of its special places, as yet unfinished, journey, and a love letter to the North of England. I've approached Northern Soul as though it were a jigsaw puzzle: examining the pieces I've come across over the years for what they can tell me. I've got some bits of the edge and some promising parts of the middle but I'd be lying if I said I was close to completing it. There are parts of the North I know only slightly and others I know like the back of my hand, and I'll plead guilty now to favouring some places over others because that's just the way it is.
  • October half term fun at the Beacon Museum, Whitehaven
    From when we open at 10am on Saturday 24 October we have a great week lined up for you. We have the Bears Exhibition where you will find books about famous bears, and you can go on a bear hunt with one of our Beacon Museum trails, following covid 19 rules and staying safe by using our bear sanitising stations. Make sure you stop by at our storytelling sessions in the bear glade (rule of 6 applies). Breaking the Waves Exhibition uncovers the dramatic changes and fortunes of Whitehaven harbour through images caught on canvas and camera. Our new Eating In Exhibition explores what we eat, where it comes from, and the influence of fashion, media, and culture on our eating habits. And Mams and Dads, a first at the Beacon Museum a trail for you based around sweet advertising of yesteryear.
