Cumberland Music Service is a team of specialist music teachers providing schools and pupils with a wide range of musical experiences.

We deliver:

  • instrumental, vocal and music technology tuition in Primary and Secondary schools
  • expert classroom music curriculum support
  • a First Access (Wider Opportunities) programme for whole classes in Primary schools giving children their first experience of learning an instrument
  • performance opportunities through our regular ensemble and special projects - from local ensemble groups and music centres, area workshops, and residential weekends through to county wide opportunities including Cumbria Youth Orchestra
  • a programme of support and training for teachers and schools
  • an Instrument Lease Scheme which is available to any young person in Cumbria and an Assisted Instrument Purchase Scheme for any young person taking lessons with one of our teachers.

We work to:

  • Inspire children and young people to develop a love of music through participation within and outside school
  • Develop and celebrate the talents of children and young people engendering a lifelong passion and desire to participate in musical and cultural events, opportunities and experiences
  • Enable Children and Young People to gain an appreciation of the contribution of different musical genres to culture and communities around the globe
  • Support educational settings to ensure all students receive a rich, interesting, and appropriately challenging music curriculum

Working in partnership with educational settings we aim to enable all children to experience and create music.

Working alongside our young people we provide an environment of inclusion and space for young people to discover their interests. By celebrating and embracing the backgrounds, heritage, language and traditions of all children we can broaden horizons and nurture children to develop their confidence, so that they can make informed decisions about the music and culture they consume and participate in and articulate why it has value to them.
