The Rural Development Programme for England 2014-2020 was funded by the Government and the EU through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. The LEADER approach is a 'bottom-up' way of delivering rural development programmes - focusing on the local area and local organisations.
In Cumbria, it was delivered by Cumbria County Council through two local action groups: Cumbria Fells and Dales and Solway, Border and Eden.

The Copeland Community Fund was an agreement negotiated with the Government to recognise the service the Borough provide to the nation by hosting the Low Level Waste Repository close to the village of Drigg. The £1.5million that Nuclear Decommissioning Authority pay every year is to be spent on projects in Copeland for the benefit of residents and to help generate future income.

The Cumbria Infrastructure Fund is part of the national Growing Places initiative. It offers funding to support infrastructure projects which unlock development, creating jobs and homes in Cumbria.
It operates as a challenge fund, scoring applications against given criteria and selecting the best available projects for the county. For more information please contact Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership.

The UK Community Renewal Fund comprises £220 million of investment across the UK and will be the pre-cursor to the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to be launched in 2022 which replaces EU Structural Funds.
This Fund aims to support people and communities most in need across the UK to pilot programmes and new approaches and will invest in skills, community and place, local business, and supporting people into employment.
